The Hyperlane is a 2.4-kilometre multi-level linear sky park, youth culture and lifestyle destination at the heart of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music University in Chengdu, China. It establishes a vibrant youth, music and 'life-oriented' linear space, linking the local transportation hub with the university community and campus in Chengdu. The Urban Gallery, the initial phase of the project, has recently opened. Serving as a 'pocket place' for the community to come together, it is defined by the simple notion of 'community and connection'. The Urban Gallery reflects the artistic and creative culture of the district, providing meaning, experience and moments of delight. The Hyperlane project demonstrates how design that considers human comfort, safety, accessibility, scale and program can bring true value to the daily lives of the community. It represents leading thinking and a new consciousness within the Chinese development industry, one that understands that a focus on people, rather than sales, can bring sustained commercial success.
